Texas nurse with HIV accused of injecting himself with patients’ drugs, refilling vials



SAN ANTONIO – A Texas nurse allegedly stole drug vials meant for sufferers so he might inject himself with ache treatment, and then refilled the vials with one other liquid.

Bexar County courtroom data show Kyle Evans, 29, faces fees of tampering with a shopper product and drug diversion.

Authorities say the Northeast Methodist Hospital employee was caught in February after stealing five vials of a ache drugs referred to as hydromorphone. Evans allegedly lifted the vials from a Pyxis MedStation, an automated medicine dishing out machine.

Evans later admitted to injecting the medicine with a syringe while working, telling investigators he refilled the vials with a saline answer and glued the tops shut, in line with an affidavit obtained by the San Antonio Categorical-News. Lab exams on the liquid are still pending, but a few of the samples have tested constructive for lidocaine.

Evans is HIV constructive, in line with the affidavit, and investigators haven’t but been capable of determine if he used the same syringe to inject himself and refill the vials, probably placing patients susceptible to contracting the illness.

Evans was booked into the Bexar County Jail.
